What a fantastic achievement by David Walliams to swim the English Channel. It would be outstanding for a professional athlete but his effort deserves the highest praise. Other 'celebs' may open charity bazaars, supermarkets or, get their name in the papers for doing nothing but this showed great strength of character and determination (quite apart from physical prowess). Well done David, I hope your charity reaps the deserved rewards!!

yes i agree, 10 hrs was it? amazing, he deserves a medal but to do it for Sports Relief was brilliant.
Amazing wasn't it?

I heard that he'd said that somebody from the charity had asked him if he could do something and he rather absently said that he'd been a big swimmer in his school days and had always dreamt of swimming the channel.

Big mistake! they lept on it like a pack of wolves

Just shows what you can do if given a little gentle encouragement!
It really is amazing - what a top bloke! I was so impressed that he did it in 10.5 hours when he expected it to take 14, plus the fact that most attempts at swimming the Channel fail. Can't wait to watch the program about it (I think it's on the 13th, BBC1) Either I missed it on the main news, or they didn't show it, I just caught a tiny piece on it on my local news programme - barely a mention.
I dont understand it. The Sun are always doing 'France for a pound' deals. Isnt that cheap enough for him?
Totally agree, a wonderful achievement and so far he has raised almost half a million pounds!
What about his coach, then? She's done the swim 43 times, and is looking forward to doing it again!!!
