Lenz gets a good write-up, as does Digi-trax, but neither are cheap.
Whatever system you choose, make sure it's fully compatable with the US National Model Railroaders Association, (NMRA) digital standards before you buy. That way, you can buy further bits and pieces from other manufacturers and be sure they'll work with your system. There's an NMRA compatability list on Lenz's site, here
