Polishing a stone in a ring

Does anyone know how I can polish the scratches out of a stone in a ring. I'm not sure what the stone is, but it's like agate or something like that. It's a reddish colour. I can't take the stone out of the ring. Thanks in advance

take it to a jewelers it will cost about a fiver
