Although you'd use the computer a great deal, why not take a look at genealogy? It's fascinating the things you discover about your heritage. Especially all those family myths we've all heard and believed only to find out Grandpa wasn't a breeder of fine horses only a horsethief! There's a world of information avialable either on the net or at your closest Morman church. they don't charge for the information there, but it is slow in diggin out facts. If you get serious about it you'll find sites (I'm in the U.S., but I'm sure there are equivalents in the U.K.) that one pays to subscribe to but the information is worth it.
I've been an airline pilot most of my adultlife and I don't have even one model airplane... how strange is that?
But take a look at some of these sites for unique information:

http://www.airliners.net/
If you want to see what flight crews talk about amongst each other, look here:

Best of luck!

To be serious supastar - clanad's right. Genealogy's fascinating. You can spend hours delving into family history - or that of friends. I know of two people who do it almost constantly - it's very addictive.

Take up bell ringing. It gets you to meet people from all walks of life, gives you exercise and makes the brain work.

how about competitions - they give your brain a workout, maybe some lovely prizes, and there are literally thousands to be entered on line and in magazines, on products etc. Along with genaeology, this can also take over your life!

Have you thought about starting a collection of Aircraft postcards.
Plenty on Ebay, and also local Postcard Fairs are a very good source. Cards can be bought very cheaply, but are interesting to collect, especially when searching to complete a set.
