Hi guys, happy to help with knitting stuff if I can. I came back to knitting and crochet about 5 years ago and did a lot of charity items, so for those who are looking for organisations to distribute their knitting, have a look at these sites:
http://www.lovinghands.org.uk/ (Loving Hands also takes sewn items and has a wide 'clientele' so you are bound to find something you can do) http://cuddles-uk.org/ (Cuddles supplies hospitals with all sorts of items for premature babies, including burial layettes) http://www.csv-rsvp.org.uk/site/knitting.htm (CSV-RSVP is the national organisation and branches are very much county-based. Their only rule is that items must be given to the recipient and not sold). Plenty of patterns on these sites :) |

Forgot to mention the Sailors Society
http:// They distribute woolly hats to sailors - sounds potty but a lot of overseas sailors arrive ill-prepared for the British weather. Also teddies - some of the overseas sailors are away from their families for months at a time and don't get a chance to take a present etc back to their children. |

Have book-marked the links Rose, thank you kindly.
Also a MASSIVE thanks to Starbuckone. xx Am now starting on number 3, I know it's not a race. Thank goodness :-) |

Gosh, I had no idea that there were so many charities distributing stuff in this way

Have only just noticed this thread...yes please! Currently knitting hats for the local hospice fete to finish up oddments of wool, but my favourite thing is lacy shawls. Will soon be starting on Christmas puddings, and thought I might try using the same pattern to make snowballs.

Still trying my hardest ....my tension is AWFUL....its too tight i think, then my needles arent far enough apart & i get to my second row and i cant get the needle in cos its tight!
Doh! Tried 3 sizes of needle aswell.....and different wool! Going to keep trying!! Also bought a crochet hook, think its a tad small, prob need a bigger one as a beginner! I managed a row no problem.....getting onto a second row was the problem... Ive unravelled it all about 10x tonight ....grr! Lol x |
