I'm hoping to have my elderly mother come to stay for a couple of days over the Christmas period. She is very frail and has a heart condidtion, which means she cannot climb stairs.
We don't have a downstairs toilet, so I'm planning on buying a chemical loo to put downstairs, but also need a bed. Ideally I would like a bed that can be stored away, but it also needs to be sturdy and not too low to the ground, which most camp style beds are.
Does anyone have any ideas for a guest bed that can be stored away, but is suitable for an older person?

There's a 'deluxe folding camp bed' in the current Argos catalogue which is 50cm high. (My own divan bed is only 45cm, so it's around 'standard' bed height). I can't link to it on their website at the moment because it's showing 'temporarily closed'. However, when the site at http://www.argos.co.uk reopens, take a look at item number 018/1321. (It's on page 909 of the current catalogue; item no 20. Length 190cm, width 77cm. £29.99).
You might consider making that bed more comfortable (and higher still) by putting an airbed on top of it. Take a look at item 019/8637. (It's on page 908 of the printed catalogue; item 11. 19cm x 74cm x 198cm. £14.97).

This is not going to be easy to solve.
Fold away beds are usually low and can be unstable, if a person has difficulty getting in and out of bed.
Would it be feasible to hire a bed? You can hire beds suitable for the disabled but of course they are full size proper beds and can't be put away during the day.
Some sofa beds are excellent and the more you pay the better the mattress.

Further to Ethel's reference to hiring a bed:

It only has two problems,it looks low (as Ethel says most fold away beds will be low).
and
it is (nearly) £280,but it does come from a very reliable company (I have quite a few things from them myself) so I will leave it with you.

What about a raised inflatable bed - something like this:
I have tried lots of camp beds in my time inflatabl, fold out different makes different size. I found the metal camp beds are a little unstable, and the springs stick in you, also the whole night I think the beds going to fold up with me inside which doesnt help up sleep.
inflatable beds are good more compact but the problem is they have a tendancy to deflat in the night meaning at some point in the night you find you bum or hip bone digging into the fool alot of the bad do this what ever the make.
I think the best bet for you is what I have at home for guests it is a double height inflatable bed from Argos, They are very uncomfortable easy to get into height, they don't deflate at all and if they did due to the size and height you would notice. Only small points to note they are a little difficult to get out of and find bed sheets to fit properly is difficult. I know these and very important points but I am sure they can be over comed with trial and error. And I know these are the most comfortable nights sleep I have had on a camp bed. I like this bed to my £500 proper bed beleive it or not.
