fancy dress

HELP............... my hubby and i have been invited to a fancy dress party in October with a caribbean theme ........what on earth can i wear ( he can easily become a mexican or hawaiian) besides a hula hula skirt ! how unadventurous but that is all the costume internet sites have as an idea .......either that or hire a pineapple costume !!!
any sensible ideas ! welcome thanks

averly why not try a carmen miranda type costume she used to wear a colourful long skirt, bare midriff, colourful top, and her a hat made out of material and stacked on top with fruit, maybe you could get the plastic fruit, like bananas apple oranges, and stick together!!!

I remember when my youngest son was in primary school and they were studying a Caribbean island in geography. The teacher announced a Caribbean fancy dress day, and I was not impressed when she turned up in a hula skirt and lei as Hawaii is nowhere near the Caribbean, and as a teacher she should have known!
I like the Pirates of the Caribbean idea, or maybe something like this

Go as a pineapple.

Seriously, i bet no one else will be wearing the same thing.

Could also go as a tropical fish - Nemo for example.
