wooden blinds

I'm desperately lookingfor wooden blinds 115cm wide. I know I could have them made to measure but its so expensive, and for some reason you can't cut them to size.

Do you have a John Lewis near you - they do them - bit pricey but very easily cut to size.

In the poast I've bopught from Argos and Ikea and on both occassions have cut them to size. Best if you've got an electric power tool-type thingy to get the job done quicker, especially as the bar at the top is usually metal.

Ikea have the advantage of being dead cheap and the quality is really good, in my experience.

Thank you very much for your help. In the argos and next catalogues it says that they can't be cut to size but I can't see why not. Its got to be worth a go anyway.

Cheers

I bought some fantastic blinds from The California Shutter & Blind Company. The website is fantastic, the service I received amazing and the wooden blinds that were delivered easy to put up. I've had John Lewis blinds before but they were at least twice the price so avoid them. The blinds are actually made in California - the website is www.thecaliforniacompany.co.uk

Hi,

Some wooden blinds can't be cut down, they really need to be designed specially for trimming. The main problem is where the ladder cords start, the ladder cords are the strings that hold the slats in place. You can see more about how a wood blind is constructed at this blog http://www.windowblinds.co.uk/rays-anatomy/ , quite a few pictures also.

We offer a trim to size service, you buy the blind and for an extra £5.95 we trim them for you! See http://www.blinds-2go.co.uk/wood_blinds.htm

Apart from ourselves there are lots of good companies to buy blinds from, to be frank Argos isn't one of them the quality in very poor in my opinion.

Hope this helps.

Bruce Blinds do Wooden blinds made to measure, but they work out just as cheap as standard off the peg blinds. I bought wooden blinds for each room in my house, specifying my exact measurements so cutting wasn't required and they are perfect.
