Sat there channel hopping in tv yesterday, and came across a programme from the USA about people who use hundreds of coupons when they shop. Some of them bought nearly a thousand dollars worth of goods for a couple of dollars.

Can anyone tell me if this is as popular here in the UK?

People in front of me in the supermarket queue seem to like coupons; but personally I find it embarrassing to be begging a few pence off a bill so tend to have nothing to do with them.
Its not begging and often its not a few pence.
It's certainly possible:

Many people here (myself included) get emails offering coupons from https://www.vouchercodes.co.uk/

Other websites that might be worth checking include

and

However a new way of doing things seems to be finding offers on products, paying the normal prices for them, photographing your receipt, uploading it and getting the voucher value added to your cash account. DieselDick recently mentioned that he's signed up to these two sites:

Buenchico. Thanks for such a detailed answer. It seems though, that it's not so easy to make such massive savings here in the UK.
One wonders what sort of society one is creating; where to get a deal one has to mess about with this nonsense when, if companies really wanted to attract custom, they could simply reduce their prices. It's the attraction of personally begging a few pence off one's present purchase, and feeling one up on everyone else, that keeps the 'normal' price higher for all others who don't wish to, nor feel they should be obliged to, jump through the hoops in order to get equal treatment.
OG, it is not begging or anything like it, begging is asking for money or goods. these stores are offering money off a product on the production of a coupon. That is not begging!

Personally, I just can't be bothered with coupons etc. but the good lady will take up these offers when she sees them.
I don't see the difference as being significant. Use coupons to beg for the discount and we'll honour it.
Money of coupons have been around for as long as I can remember. The little shop in our road used to let the kids buy sweets with them.
OG. the difference is obvious, they are offering, the customer is not asking. However. if you would rather see it your way (for whatever reason) you have that right.
It's not begging, pure and simple. Would you consider switching opticians because another one is doing two for the price of one as begging?
In that case I beg everymonth!! I got £35 of my shop last month using vouchers, now I know that's not a lot but every little helps!!
I think its a good idea in principle but personally couldn't be jaffed with it all.
I was in M&S last week and a lady's groceries came to £85 - she produced 2 vouchers of £25 each and promptly her groceries were £35. That was great savings. I have wondered where she got these vouchers because they weren't from a paper or magazine etc.
JJ if you have an M and S credit card, you get loyalty points plus bonuses....also anybody can have a sparks card which gives loyalty bonuses like a supermarket loyalty card. I have got two credit cards, both give loyalty point and I try and use them for everything. I pay off every month so no interest and the points are a good freebie.
yeah the voucher trend has taken over the UK business market by a storm recently. you can easily shop to your hearts content and save a ton of money at the same time by simply visiting some well renowned websites like
https://www.independent.co.uk/vouchercodes
https://www.vouchercloud.com/
https://www.topvoucherscode.co.uk/
https://www.groupon.co.uk/
