They apparently request this when a new address is used. But I've requested pickup at local post office...something I've done quite often. Is their request legitimate?

Wouldn't know for sure. Make sure it is Amazon. But I'd suggest that the Post Office was a new delivery address for you and it could be a check that it's a legitimate change of destination and not some thief trying to get hold of your order.

That's what I thought,O_G. It's just annoying as it's an address supplied by Amazon for "click and collect", and I've used it before. I emailed Amazon, and they aren't bothered...so I guess I won't be either. :-)
I was asked the same last week for an address I've used before but not for a while. Gave the card again and have had several e-mails since with confirmation of purchase, your item has dispatched etc so think it's fine.
