Trying to get fit!
My OH did a lot of mountain biking, he's out of touch with what's currently available but has advised go for something light and yes with some front suspension.
Be guided by the views of your GP
If your back is a bit fragile I would have thought suspension was more important on the rear wheel.
That's why I bought mine, Gav....knew I couldn't do hills but wanted to cycle......the ebike has been great....x
Perhaps you could get that lady cyclists motorised one cheap......
Bearing in mind your health issues would suggest getting GPs advice first.

I would also consider that any bike you choose should have both front and rear suspension.
Sounds as though your friend hasn't got a clue ? .. If a bike is for road use only avoid suspension of any kind. If you have ever ridden a bike on the road with suspension you will know why .. it takes a lot more effort to pedal a bike with suspension than it does without.

Ever watched the Tour de France .. how many bikes do you see with suspension ?

Suspension is for off road and downhill riding only.
