Sainsbury's women's trousers and skirts, size 8, have a waistband of 30". I know because I measured several yesterday. I know dress-sizes seem to be changing all the time, but for a size 8 to have a 30" waist is ridiculous. Especially when you consider that Sainsbury's don't sell a smaller size. Or, if they do, I couldn't find one.
Do skinny women have to buy children's clothes now ?

Often, yes.
the answer is simple, shop elsewhere.
Although it doesn't refer to Sainsbury's, you might find this worth a look:

Depends where you consider to be your waist.
Many styles are worn hip high now.
I buy Tu clothing when they have the 25% offers on. I find their jeans are very generously sized, but their tops aren't. I can fit into size 8 jeans, but often buy size 14 tops.
