I used http://www.serenataflowers.com/ to send a Christmas basket to a relative. It arrived in 24 hours (free delivery) and, according to the relative, was absolutely beautiful.

Not very interesting, perhaps, but I'd appreciate an M&S voucher.

I can't find a better example on a quick search but balloon bouquets are different, a friend got some in a large box and they were lovely and different.

You can get all kinds of personalised ones.
I was sent a box of 12 cupcakes once, they went down well.
I got a box of personalised cupcakes for a birthday gift and loved them, they came in such a beautiful box tied with a ribbon, I still have the box which I keep my sewing and knitting accessories in.
Eve can you remember where they came from? I'd like to get some for a relative.

I wouldn't worry about needing to be being too unusual as a bunch of flowers is always appreciated. Especially at this time of year when the decorations have come down, they are a refreshing change. I imagine the host would prefer them now to anymore food or chocolate.
I once sent a bouquet of leeks, the recipient was delighted.
I wanted to send a bouquet to OZ but it was too expensive for me, they said that was the most expensive place to send one too at Interflora
