Are they to be taken with a pinch of salt? Looking at the reviews for cheapish belts, I notice some say they're great value and others say they're rubbish and lasted no time.

Not really. A while back I bought some pillows. Some of the reviews were terrible some brilliant. The pillows are brilliant...

Same as hotel reviews. Read some awful reviews about the hotel we stayed at. I couldn't fault it though.

People expect too much for too little.

I did used to have some expensive feather pillows but they make my ears ache for some reason.

Reviews are very subjective, so variation inevitable. And such reviews are not immune to the trolls who pollute the internet of course.

Some people will give an item a 1-star review because it wasn't delivered - twisted logic IMO.

One hotel I stayed in got a bad review because someone could see a roof tile out of place!!!

I have always found the reviews to be very useful.

There is always the possiblity that manufacturers and suppliers can write good reviews of a bad product. In reality, those usually stand out as fake especially the more reviews there are.

Genuine reviews are of course subjective. What one person might write as a pro, another might think it is a con.
