A wallet?
Boots voucher
My wife had exactly the same problem! When we were down town yesterday, she spent hours looking for something suitable, and finished up with a mug which said "Whatever" on it. Apparently, the guy won't know who actually bought the gift, so it doesn't really matter.
Good idea Spotty with 'Where's the milk?' on it.
The funniest one I ever got was from a colleague who sent me the cheapest, tackiest Xmas card you could imagine with the inscription:

Money's tight,
Times are hard,
Here's your *******
Xmas card!

yes i had gone down the route of not really caring as he won't know, but i don't want to be thoughtless. My worst SS present was a pair of cashmere socks - owing to being disabled i havent been able to wear socks for about 15 years!
There's always an escape route. Tell everyone you're a JW and you don't do Xmas.
Doe he have a tablet or smart phone? If so, a relevant voucher.
Something like this maybe ...

Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

i.e. a full (6 episodes) early series (5) of Red Dwarf for £8.75

i have no idea if he has a smart phone. I already acquiesced to being in the ss so can't back out now
Bow tie
Willy warmer.
scratch card
An UN-checked shirt with Daisy's matching tie.

'A Life'
Have a look at Hawkins Bazaar. There are lots of shops popping up in different tows for Christmas, or look at: http://www.hawkin.com/ (there is 10% off online orders in November!) There's a chocolate Russian Roulette, which seems quite fun, as does the book 'Universally Challenged' and a desktop fishing game, all of which are under a tenner and seem quite innocuous.
CARTON OF MILK POWDER TO BE LEFT IN THE OFFICE
A selection of interestingly named beers from Sainsbury's, the real Ale type. Or a bottle of nice wine.
