Oldest daughter has developed an interest in those loom band bracelet things...

I've been looking on Amazon for a starter kit, but am overloaded with the huge amount of different ones. I was going through some of the descriptions and customer questions and folk are asking about CE marks...

Can anyone recommend a decent kit that won't break the bank but does conform to European standards?

Thanks for that mazie, knew their pokey wee fingers would be useful for something.

The wee bands remind me of castrating rings for lambs...
If you have The Works near you, or can buy on-line from them, they have shedloads of kits - and there are loads of videos on YouTube to tell you how to do it.

Beware though - they bung up the hoover, and you need to keep them away from pets, dangerous if swallowed :-(
Mine use looms, fingers and forks (!) - there are flipping loads of different looms about (we seem to have most of them). I just got mine from the Range (a cheapo shop) but you can get them from Wilkinsons, B & M, supermarkets, etc. Some are really expensive but I wouldn't bother with a really pricey one as by the time she has got the hang of it there will be a new craze.
LOL 2sp, now there's a thought! (there was a story in the paper the other day where a kid did actually stop the blood supply to her finger by twisting it so hard she couldn't get it off....)
As boxtops has said ... The Works if there's a branch near you 2sp ... http://www.theworks.co.uk/page/loom-bands

Thanks everyone! There is a The Works near me (looked it up online, no idea it was even there!).

I'll have a look around next time I'm in town. She'll probably have moved onto something else by then! I honestly thought we'd missed that fad.
dangerous, if flicked towards a small child. Cuts off blood supply when wrapped around little fingers making bracelets. can be swallowed by a pet or small child. Overall waste of time and money, not that they are expensive at 99p a box in the works. my kids have had them and thrown them as novelty wore off and i wouldn't let them in my living room.
2sp_: I had the same problem when my nephew kept bugging me to keep buying him loom bands every time I went into town. I bought about 7 different boards and to be honest they were all pretty much useless and broken after an hour of looming. To resolve the problem I decided to buy a couple of cheap boards (2 for £5 which came with hooks and 2 bags (600 pieces) of bands. I took the boards home, drilled through each solid piece of plastic (the bits in between the board pegs) and screwed them down to a nice piece of pine I'd sanded down. I went to all that effort and spent about £70 in total on my nephew only to find out he's given all his bands and boards away - including the one I made him :/ oh well!
2sp_: I then made a special board for making bracelets with lettering (no beads but actually look band letters built into the bracelets).

Here are 2 pictures, the first one showing the board and the second showing my nieces bracelet I made for her :)
