Hi there.. im in desperate need of a babies first christmas keepsake.. but ive no idea what to get! I dont want some cheap bauble from a card shop or just anything. I love handmade items and I cant get to any christmas markets this year due to work! Used up all holidays spending extra time with my little chap when he was born.
Any ideas??? Not opposed to out of the ordinary!
Thanks guys ♡

Could you make a stocking? (I'm not brilliant at sewing but I reckon I could make one by hand.)
a snow dome .

Ive actually already made him an elf stocking.. and he had his christmas photoshoot today and ive had a picture of him put in a snow globe.. :/ maybe ive thinking something for the tree? But not a typical bauble.. I also have a strict red-green-gold theme. I even wrap my presents old fashioned with brown handmade paper and twine!
For the home so all can enjoy through the years may sound a bit corny, but what about baby's hands and feet prints immortalised in clay?!
do you know any knitters ? a xmas jumper ?
I got my daughter a bauble when she was little, the old fashioned victorian style, red and green with her name on in gold. It wasn't expensive but she loves to see it on the tree at Xmas and she's 26 now.
Building on Prudie's theme maybe get a bauble and then another each year, with him choosing when he gets older. Ps - you may want to abandon all thoughts of 'strict themes' now that you have a little person around, they don't tend to adhere to themes and will bring home all sorts of hand-made tatt that you will have to display and adore. Our Christmas tree last year looked like the work of Barbie and Willie Wonker on drugs.
Have a look at www.notonthehighstreet.com it has all sorts of nice bits and pieces.
I always buy a first day cover and presentation pack of the christmas stamps for babies first christmas and also a set of the years coins in a presentation case. Hope that helps?
Hi if you are looking to do something home made have you thought of making your own Christmas decos out of cornflour dough?

I cant remember the exact recipe but you basically mix cornflour and water it makes a soft dough. Nurseries often use it instead of play dough as it is cheaper and no nasty chemicals :-)

you can use food colouring to dye it and add glitter too. You can shape it easily using your hands or cookie cutters, your little one could even do some himself.

then you leave it to harden, takes about a day depending on how thick the piece is.

If you want to you can then paint using poster paint and/or varnish to keep the colours.

Dont forget to put in a hole somewhere before it hardens so you can thread a bit of string through :-).

Just done a quick search and came up with this:

How about finding a very small cube or box with a lid and decorate it to match how you wrap your presents. You could put a photo of your son in it every Christmas, or a lock hair from first haircut, first baby tooth etc., like a little memory box.
Meant to say 'to hang on the tree'!
