Unique Gift

Hi,
I am desperate! I'm looking for a special gift for my best friend's 60th. birthday next month. I was hoping to purchase a personally named rose tree, but was advised against this. She is a working, world travelled fun person. Should be easy, but as my original choice is out I'm at a loss.
She lives in Guernsey & some websites don't deliver to the Channel Islands.

Any help appreciated,
Many thanks,
Jersey C.I.

A personal rose is a lovely present (I am a rose lover) Look at Austins or Peter Beales Rose catalogue online and see how many Christian names are there as well as special occasions. FOr my 70th I was given a lovely orange rose called "SImply the Best" from my girlfriends and it has flourished. There are several titles with names. There is also a marvellous...

who advised you against a rose?
Question Author
Various forums, but if you know better, please tell.
Had the same problem a while back - my friend is the orginal 'lady who has everything' and I wanted to do something special so as she has a great interest in a particular endangered animal (orangutans in this case) I made a worthwhile donation in her name - contacted the sanctuary in Borneo, they sent her a personalised 'thank you' email and lots of information and pictures which I printed off on nice paper. My friend also gets regular updates and a say in how the money is spent. She absolutely loved it to bits
well there must have been a reason you thought it would suit her? Really it doesn't matter what other people think of your present choice! (especially random internet strangers?)
Roses take a lot of looking after, but I can't think why they wouldn't be recommended. A specially named one would be a lovely present. Was it a particular website or nursery that you were advised against?

I gave a friend a personalised Kindle case, which she loved. It was from this website:

It might be worth checking it to see if anything would suit your friend.
What about some Guernsey freesias? I've had them delivered to Scotland before for.my mum's 50th and they were lovely :-)

How much were you thinking about spending? What about a spa voucher?
I can't see what's wrong with a rose tree. There are some beautiful ones and surely there are some fantastic ones on the island. Surely Ransoms have something or can get you what you are looking for if a particular tree.....
Give them a call to see if they deliver to Guernesy or can twin with a centre over there.
Why not get a gift for less fortunate people, we got Mother 2 goats in Africa after she said that she didn't want any presents again, but she soon changed her mind.... Or find out what her favourite charity is, then make a donation in her name..

Or, try some of these (all in Channel Islands)

There is also a marvellous website called "Celebration WInes " which is in Ireland, but they customise a wine bottle usually very amusingly, with all names that would mean something to the person(s) who will receive it. My family have really loved the wines with their joint names etc included. HAve a look. He is very helpful if you ring or email him, and he will tell you if he posts to C Isles. God luck
