it's not really the supermarket though is it? it's cadburys
|
|
So you're getting 400g for the price of 230g. Where's the rip off?
|
|
That's not uncommon lately. The manufacturer's are constantly reducing the sizes, while keeping the pricing the same. As if we don't notice!

Question Author
I thought I was getting 460. Yes, it probably is Cadburys, you're right bednobs.

I realised that a new jar of Hartleys jam was smaller than the previous one when I scooped the remains of the old jar out and then found that the same spoon wouldn't fit in the new jar!

innocent smoothies have also done this recently. selling 750mls for the same price thatthey used to charge for 1litre!
|

Ermmm..six 200gm bars would be 1200gm,while six of the 230 would be another 180gm-that chrissa is not getting now.

Nicely put pasta.

Do what I do, always look at the weight and the £ / Kilo price , they all have them.
|
|
This is an old trick and it has been going on for donkeys' years.
Manufacturers either vary the recipe slightly or the packaging/weight.
It is so that a 'new' or 'improved' banner can be used to maintain consumer interest in the product
It goes up to offer a 'giant' bar - then back down again some time later.
I worked for a major chocolate producer until 1993 - it was happening then, so nothing new here.

Question Author
I agree Eddie but having bought the same size bar for ages, (at varying prices), one just assumes, doesn't one?

Question Author
I must have led a sheltered life Buildersmate.

The supermarket knows that people buy on impluse , they rely on it. Never buy until you have checked the weight and the £/Kilo. Often a 'special offer' is more per Kilo than the normal one. 'Special Offer' means nothing it may well only be special to the supermarket as in more profitable.

I don't buy CDM on impulse Eddie, I buy it all the time. I know what you mean though.

The public being taken for suckers again
Well... you were, weren't you. Always check sizes and weights and don't assume anything. You still got them a lot cheaper than face value, as Zac says.

Iceland I bought frozen veg and nowput down to 900 grams instead of 1000grms
|
|
I would be just happy to save money on the chocolate, I dont think you were badly done
|
|
Chrissa I'm surprised you didn't notice as you buy them all the time. Rule No.1 on Deals, check and then check again.

Probably because I picked 6 up together and didn't notice the weight change, also trying not to be too conspicuous. Lol.

Another rip-off is the fact that multipacks of chocolate bars such as Kit Kats are now sold - in packs of nine! They used to be sold in packs of ten but the manufacturers have now taken one bar out of each pack without reducing the pack price! Whoever heard of selling things in quantities of nine?! It's all rather cynical.
Earlier this year Tesco announced all these Clubcard points increases when buying goods in-store. However, they announced at the same time that to cover the extra points they were reducing points for fuel from one point per pound to one point for every two pounds! That cheesed me off as I got most of my points from petrol.
