Gift voucher query

When you buy, for example, a £20 Boots voucher, does that branch of Boots take the money for itself, or does the money go to the branch in which you spend the voucher?

It's probably just so they legitimately have a reason to keep the cash in return for absolutely nothing when people forget to spend their gift cards.

Well the branch you buy it in takes the money but it's not like they keep it themselves, it all goes into the same place eventually.
The money will go to the store where you bought the card because you paid for it with cash/credit.
It will go towards that stores sales though.
The voucher is just another form of cash. The has store that sells the voucher has really just exchanged a voucher worth £20 cash for £20 cash. The store that sells an item receives a£20 voucher as payment for some goods. That voucher is worth as much as £20 in cash.
I think though that stores may be incentivised to sell vouchers- maybe they are valued by the head office at £15 say and the store is credited with £20 for a voucher sale
Can I ask why you are asking?

Well the reason I ask is because the Boots card I got for Christmas says on the back "If it is suspected that you are withholding funds from this card, it will be invalidated."
I wondered why they are bothered as to how long it takes you to spend it, when they have already received the cash?
That's why I asked if they don't actually get the cash credited until the giftcard is spent - are you with me?
