work gift

I'm leaving my present school job next week as II move to a new one with the special needs child I work with. I've only been there a year and after a dodgy start due to circumstances beyond my control concerning the child I settled in and get on fine with everyone but work-colleague fine, not buddy-fine. I'd like to take something in as a goodbye gift but don't want to go over the top. Any suggestions please? I had thought of a cake, what do you think?
