What was the best present anyone ever gave you?

Mine was a unicycle, although I am still trying to master how to ride it without falling off!

I always thing that the ones that have had a lot of though go into them are the best and they are generally the least expensive too. What thoughtful gifts have you received.

Sorry that was two questions in one there, but hey, whos counting!

Before my wife and I were married, we were walking in Barlason, by the church, it has a lovely double row of huge trees, it's a lovely view. I have childhood memories of the village - my grandparents lived there and I stayed with them as a child and enjoyed walking the lanes and woods, and I was chirstened in the church.

As we walked, we saw an old man with an easel and paints, painting a view of the long line of trees, and we stopped for a word with him.

Completely unbenown to me, my girlfriend tracked him down, bought the painting he was working on that day, had it framed, and gave it to me for my birthday that year. It still has pride of place on our lounge wall, and I love to look at it, and think how much I love that view, and how much love and thought went into it being there.

For my birthday a few years ago (a big one with a 0) my husband took me away for the weekend. He didn't tell me where we were going, just not to pack anything too smart & make sure I had some casual clothes. He took me to a rare breeds pig farm, where he had arranged for me to spend the weekend looking after pigs. Feeding, shampooing, & taking for a walk (they were show pigs). This may not sound to wonderful to most people - but I love pigs, and it was the best present ever!

Awwww Andy, what a lovely thoughtful present.

Although I have 3 healthy children, I lost several babies, including 2 stillborn. Mr O bought and planted a tree in the garden for each one. It gives me a great deal of comfort to see the trees thriving and growing strong.

My ex husband (was my husband then!!) ... bought me a day as a Zoo Keeper as a Christmas Present. It was THE most fantastic day!!! I loved it. Fed the apes, met the lemurs, fed the baby elephant, flew some birds of prey, fed the small mammals (dead hamsters to the mongeese - not nice, but nature isn't always nice) cleaned out some exhibits, was with the keepers for other feeding times etc ........ a brilliant day.

Wow Andy, that was a really thoughtful thing your wife did. And that picture is a constant reminder of that and also a lot of happy memories you hold, how fantastic.

Piggling, your day sounds brilliant! Gifts are not about expense and what others want, its about something special and individual that will make the receiver happy and that is exactly what yours was.

Yours too Echokilo, I present like that is something that will have a lasting memory and you will always remember what you got that year!

Mrs O, I am so sorry about the babies that you lost, my mum also had several miscarriages before giving birth to me and my sister. Although I do not have children myself yet, I cant imagine anything more heart breaking. What a lovely idea though to plant a tree for each of your babies and to watch them grow.

My Missus dropped a load of hints that she would like a new three piece suite for our anniversary.
So I bought her a Mars Bar and cut it into three pieces.
Mind you, It was wrapped up in a blank cheque.
