Fash is a Scottish slang word and being Scottish, I can't see it being relevant to the clue. We looked at this in the early days and discarded it as we couldn't think of a relevant phrase.

Got answers for the all except for 39.

19 is Christmas Hamper
35 is The Cricket on the Hearth
47 we think is Christmas Holiday
48 is St Stephen's Day (Look up "The Wren Hunt" on Google)

46 we have Christmas Pudding
Re 39, one suggestion was "allaying". We've had another suggestion "all around" but can't find anything attaching either to a Christmas theme.

Hi Brokenbank, Hope you had a lovely christmas. Are you any nearer with 39?
I have searched till my fingers are sore and cannot find anything that relates to this at all.
No, still non the wiser with 39 having spent hours trying to find a connection.
Only just seen this and No 39 made me think of plaster (there, there, there) then duck but can't think of anything Christmassy after that.
I've been trying to figure out no. 39. I haven't done Dingbats before, and now I'm curious what the answer is. Will you put the answer on this thread when you find it?
Question Author
Guaranteed when we find the answer it will be so simple. I have tried every conceivable thread to the words but it is the hardest one yet.
This is a sneaky clue so Mallard could be a duck or drake or even locomotive or the fastest steam engine which doesn't bring anything Chrismassy to mind.

On another thread someone suggested train, but to me a train is a locomotive with rolling stock.
39 Theres a train out for dreamland by nat king cole
29 got me still not happy with any answer i came up with but was told 39 by a friend a bit late and was well peeved with myself for not asking her in the first place so much for the sorry crys of "I can't do dingbats!!!!"
