Car Thermometer

How is my car thermometer (gives outside temp)positioned so it is unafected by engine temp or being cooled by rushing air?

they are normally mounted behind the front bumper so they are sheltered from the wind flow and low enough that they don't get the heat from the engine as heat rises.

A thermometer will only be cooled by rushing air if it's wet of if it's travelling near or above supersonic speeds.
