Number Sequence

I need to find out all 28 number combinations for 6 numbers for the numbers 1 to 8.

ie:

1 2 3 4 5 6
1 2 3 4 5 7
1 2 3 4 5 8
1 2 3 4 6 7
etc etc

I get to a certain point then by head explodes.
Please help!!

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean the 8 numbers 1-8, or the 6 numbers 1-6?

For six numbers there are in fact 720 combinations (that is, possibilities of the numbers appearing in any order). For eight numbers it is 40,320. For obvious reasons I'm not going to type them out!

Why do you need to know? What's the background to the problem?

Write out the numbers 1 through 8 28 times and then go through them deleting the following number pairs

12 13 14 15 16 17 18 23 24 25 26 27 28 34 35 36 37 38 45 46 47 48 56 57 58 67 68 78

If you want a six digit permutation of any of eight characters the total number is
8x7x6x5x4x3 = 20160
because your choice of characters is reduced every time. Given that you are not repeating any characters?
To produce a list I recommend using a spreadsheet!

I don't know what the others are talking about. I thought the question was pretty straight forward myself.

The answer I gave is the one you are after.
