Certain thoughts creating sensations in your body

When I think certain things or have some kind of revelation I feel tingling in my body sometimes.

What is this? Is it a freeing up of some unresolved tension or something? Hopefully someone can explain what's going on.

I think it's very important to pay attention to the mind and body.

What do you mean by 'some kind of revelation'?

I can understand what you mean. People scoff at the concept of 'stigmata', but whenever I feel deep sympathy for anybody, I get weird "pains" in the palms of my hands. Can't explain it.

Well seratonin's produced when you're in a happy mood - so maybe you just have odd surges!

Holy Smoke!
Actually you'd think smoke would be more relative to hell.

Well I think I'll have to opt to go there, Sir A, because I can't read music, and therefore don't fancy playing a harp for evermore!

Well like when I find something out or I get some information and it's like "ahhhhh that makes sense".

If I'm to be specific... Like right now I was reading about fear of success and after reading something I'd not really thought of before and at the same time made sense to me I felt a sensation. I've noticed it many times and interested in what's going on.

I'm wondering if some psychological change is happening or something.

I realise it might be a weird question but it's ok.

Supposedly a very difficult instrument to learn. Imagine the racket up there, with everyone learning at the same time.
John Lennon on piano, Louis Armstrong on trumpet, hopefully Freddy Mercury on vocals, etc

Sorry for the interruption, Tha-Flash.

Is it the same sensation as when the hair stands up on the back of your neck and arms?

Ok Ice.

Alec, I'd say it's pretty much the same, yeah. Just not as intense.

I used to know allsorts about human biology, but have forgotten a lot, I'm afraid. Glands in the body release all kinds of chemicals, the pituitary gland is responsible for a few. I would still imagine it to be a small release of adrenalin though.

I get tingling sensations up that run up my spine and radiate out into my hands when I connect with certain pieces of music.

It happens just by singing the piece inside my head even without actually hearing it.

I don't know that western thought has a description of it but it is well known in yoga as the rising or the kundalini. Basically a form of the awareness of the self connecting with the greater consciousness.

I don't really have anything to add, as the posts above seem to throw as much light as possible on the subject.
Holistically, the mind affects the body and vise versa, this being more or less intense in different individuals.
Spiritually, the mind becomes calmer, and therefore this must affect the body, particularly during times of prayer and meditation.

Cool great answers.

I do meditation myself and I remember Eckhart Tolle once saying try and feel the sensations in your hand. It seems like there's something to it... I don't know what, really. I feel like there should be a meaning to it.

Like "when this happens, it's an indication of x" or "if you didn't get that release then x, y and z would happen". If anyone knows the answers I'd be very interested:)

And with music, definitely. The feeling is very intense, especially with a song that gets you "pumped".

I have done yoga classes off and on for about ten years. During the classes we often did meditation and we were guided through passing the energy upwards through the seven chakras.

Each chakra had a colour and a symbol. The ultimate one at the top of the head was to be imagined as a silver grey thousand petal lotus. I tried to picture a little lotus in the top of my head. It felt nice but nothing earth shattering.

The one night I felt the whole top half of my head light up inside and I understood what they yogis were talking about. It was pretty spectacular and of course once I realised it went away.

Never had it again but it was a very special moment in my life..
