Broken Vertebrae

My dad broke his vertebrae a year ago, and the pain doesn't seem to be getting any better. despite medical advice that it will improve. He can walk but some days are very much worse than others. We're wondering if there are any treatments or approaches that might be worth exploring as there seems to be no improvement and the doctors are not able to say anything otheer than "it takes time"

We know it's a complex issue but we're trying to help him find other ways to releive or cure his condintion.

Not sure that anyone here will be able to give you better advice than the doctors.
I did see something a while ago on TV where a sort of medical cement was injected into cracked vertebrae and the same day the chap was walking virtually without pain.... but I am sure (??) your dad's doctors would be aware of this procedure.

Why not send your Dad a card so he knows you are feeling his pain too. That sometimes helps.

I echo the comment that this is not a good place for this.

How old is he, the nature of the inury, previous treatment if any, all this is in public and you ay not wish to reveal such details...

Treated by whom ? and so on

You may try to get your General practitioner to refer your Dad to a spinal surgeon of which there are thousands in the UK in practice - I mean Manchester has 15 or 20.
If the spinal surgeon has said he has to wait then you wither have to wait or go to another surgeon.

My sister suffered a crushed vertebra in a car accident and attempted to go back to work in 8 weeks - we all thought she was crazy.

Has he tried a TENS machine? They lend them to pregnant women to help with labour pains and I remember seeing an article on telly a couple of years back on how they were refining them for other forms of pain, cos a woman i know was looking into it for her husband who had cancer. I think you can get them in boots and you can also rent them to see if it actually works - check out the back pages of any maternity magazine.
