Uploading Photos On Google Photos

I have used Google Photos to share photos among my friends for about a year now. Since last week I am unable to upload my pics using this service. Can anyone advise me as to the possible cause.

Is there a limit on how much data you can store on there; if so, have you reached it? I know nothing about Google Photos but most site like that have a free introductory size but you have to pay once you've reached it.

There probably is a limit on free uploads but it is strange that I have not been informed of it. I also use One Drive and you get notification once you approach the limit. When an upload is attempted on Google Photos you are informed that the pics are being prepared for upload and this just goes on for hours. I would be happy to pay for extended storage but they must let me know if it is necessary at the moment. Many Thanks. Carcrash
