Afternoon!

We're thinking about adding a few more services to embed into the site - in the same way we do with YouTube.

What sites would you like us to try and make this possible for?

Examples would be: Flickr, Imgur, Spotify, Dictionary.com etc...

Not all will be possible, but throw some ideas out about what you'd like, and we'll try our best!

All the best,

AB Editor.

I think that probably most ABers have a dictionary in their favourites
Tiny pic?

Does this mean I can post the pictures of my cats?

Question Author
You could post pictures of your cat, maybe!

I think that might work with pasting in a link from dictionary.com, which might drag in the definition. It wouldn't be a spell check or anything clever :)
Ed. It is just as easy to Google a dictionary.

Sorry Danny, I misread your first comment!
I'd like as little of my screen space wasted on other Net sites that I don't use, as possible.
Of course this isn't a problem as long as your suggestion doesn't result in umpteen tiles forever on the screen for folk to click on.

That's sort of the point - sometimes someone shares a FB video. It would be better for you to view it here, rather than wandering off to FB (which you don't use?).
The ability to post from Flickr and / or Instagram would be useful.
If it is all automatic to detect then fine, put every one you can think of. Ultimately it down to what folk find popular.

I take it that the 'viewer' doesn't have to wait for things to auto download and auto run on entering the thread when they weren't interested in viewing that particular content anyway ?

Didn't think of instagram, good idea.
Surely ABers would need Flickf, Imgur, Instagram, FaceBook etc accounts to view the embedded media
Question Author
Hi HC, only if it's private, in which case you would need an account and access to the author's account (i.e. as a friend). We're assuming Abers would only share "public" stuff.
I'm not interested in anything Facebook related. I hate sites that show Facebook/Twitter comments their pages.
Ed, please don't clutter AB with social media sites.
Just an option to upload a picture.
I wanted to post this video on here but couldn't find it on YouTube - it would be handy if this could be embedded just like the YT ones.

Wolf, ideally, that video would just embed when you entered that link.
So - why doesn't it?

All this stuff confuses me these days. :-(
I'm rather cautious about this. It is not difficult to click a 'clicky link' if we want to see the media but it could be darned frustrating to have videos and music automatically open unexpectedly, especially when on a restricted data plan or slow internet.

Perhaps there could be option to disable embedded media so that it shows as clicky links?
