He's has a quarter of a million pounds available to him, in expenses. That includes his salary. Of course he can afford a flat, or bedsit, or hotel room, in London...How on earth do you think the other 549 MPs survive...

Here's the story about his resignation.

Do you have a link to all the details of this quarter of a million pounds? I'm not sure what point you are making
Question Author
factor-fiction., The point I'm making is that there is a pot, of salary, expenses, home flipping etc that is worth £250,000 a year. What's the prob?
Question Author
How many other MPs have you heard saying they can't manage on the money? What a joke.
scooping - if he feels he can earn a mill plus outside, good luck to him.
Has he said he can't manage? I'm not sure you are bringing together the issue of his resignation and MPs expenses
Question Author
Add directorships, additional pay for being a junior minister or minister, add general work outside parliament (legal advice, for example, should he or she be a solicitor or barrister) or work as a consultant in, for example, PR, and you have a package worth a lot more than £250,000.
I can't see anywhere where he cites money as the reason for his departure.
Question Author
Yes, if he wants to earn a million outside parliament fine. Hope they give him three mins to clear his desk.
Nor me.
I'm not even sure why you've started a duplicate thread to the one you were invoved in.
or why it's in law
Question Author
Zacs-Master: Did he not mention money? Oh, what a shock.
erm....no he didn't. What are you shocked about?
He may have gone before Dave professes his full confidence in him.
Actually, more seriously, scooping, you should be praising him for his two principal reasons, time with his family and also that he wants to ensure that his seat remains his, hence more time as a local MP, instead of hosting UN conferences over some tinpot nation.
Question Author
Remember him in your prayers, that he will be able to pay for his two homes and a first-class lifestyle.
It is also important that his children remain in expensive private schools, that he drives a top-of-the range, that Tuscany is not deprived of the money from his family's annual holiday, that Fortnum and Mason stay in business and, perhaps, most of all, the British people are not deprived of his wisdom and experience.
sorry, what is your rant actually about? i'm finding it hard to discern
Have you lost the plot scoop?
Just think how much tax he'll have been paying and he's saved you and me from having to pay for his children to be educated in state schools.
Actually I heard something on radio 4 - I think he did say how difficult it was to support children when working as an MP. I'll listen later
Blimey how big is that chip on your shoulder scooping? He is not an Eton/Oxbridge educated posh boy, sounds like he's worked his way up from Trent Polytechnic!! If you pay rubbish money to politicians ONLY the rich will be able to afford to do it.
