We all know someone or have friends who are like emotional vampires and drain the happiness from you. What things do they do that drains you? Be interesting to know what things bother others.

People who make themselves out to be "martyrs". It's always them who work hardest, are most put upon, are most ill, have the most struggles in life. They then wait around for people to say "Poor you!". They seem to thrive on it.

They need a good shake!
Sly,
Underhand,
Selfish,
Braggers,
Do Gooders,
Rip off Merchants,
People that expect you to drop everything at a moments notice to assist them, but make excuses when you need their help, the list goes on "Dream"
Self-centred, egotistical people.
Pessimistic and negative people who always try to pull down others who are trying to make a go of things. "That will never work" "you won't be able to do that" and thing like that.

My mum is a bit like this, trying to bring me down, never having the guts to do anything out of her comfort zone.

I always like to try things as I feel I will only regret the things I don't do rather than the things I did. If I try something and it doesn't work, we'll never mind at least I have tried. If I never try I will never know.

When you're telling someone about something that happened to you and they manage to turn it around so it's about them. How do they do that?
I don't know Lardy, though actually that happened to me yesterday. I was in Aldi feeling the kumquats, you don't want soggy kumquats do you? Anyway ...
Lardhelmet, you're so right. You can talk about anything that's happening to you, and before you can blink the conversation is about them.

Another one is fair weather friends. They're great to have when you want a night out, but strangely disappear when you need a shoulder to cry on, despite you're being their shoulder to cry on countless times.
Do you know what, I have just realised I hate being around people.
Me too Talbot. That's why I'm in therapy!!!
"Snap"
Me too.
My wife used to haver a lot of "friends" like that not long after we married that wanted to dump all their ills on her/us, usually petty annoying things. We moved.

Negativity drains me, can't be doing with it
Do gooders.
My big bone of contention.

When visitors come to visit me and we are in the throes of nice conversation - their mobile rings - immediately visitor stops and takes the call and talks to them for minutes. Feel like throwing them out on the streets. No, these calls are not important - very inane. "where are you" oh I am in Jennyjoan's. Talking about it riles me as it so very very rude.
@Lardhelmet - I have one friend - truly unbelievable - if I mention about somebody being ill - she too has had that disease/illness. She actually harks back to HER illness (and all her illnesses) when she was 17 years old - she is now 74.
The know it all's drive me round the bend
