What do people think of these, our neighbour to the rear of our garden has just had one installed. we live in the North East ,with many northerly winds and the smell is awful, it is like someone smoking fish, blowing into our house. I dont like it at all, it has spoilt our garden for sitting out in, anything we can do ?

We have one, we love it and love the smell too - sorry probably not what you want to hear!
contact your council, some have stringent rules about burning garden rubbish and so on.
Some folk can be very inconsiderate, do hope it gets sorted and you can enjoy your garden again
Difficult one, Cats......I was bought a fire pit last year....I did tell my neighbours that I would be using it now and again and only late at night if they had no objection.
They told me to use and enjoy it but I only burn turf and they love the smell too.
I say difficult because it's not really much different to bonfires and I'm sure there are regulations about those?.....x
But that's your choice Islay, It's not cats choice to have it wafting over to her garden and I would hate it too. Good advice from Alba.
I thought log burners were installed inside the home?!?
// the smell is awful, it is like someone smoking fish, // That does not smell like a normal Logburner & needs serious investigation.
its in their neighbours home what can she do then jambutty?
Ah...I thought it was an outdoor one.....x
I'd ask them what they are burning and whether it was correctly installed - my daughter has two and no such issues, also a very windy area.
me too gness, I thought outdoor type thingy.

Instead of flushing the deceased goldfish, maybe they're cremating them?

I'd still have a word with council about the pong tho, if all else fails, phone fire brigade and suggest that you're worried about carbon monoxide or something equally horrendous in neighbours house.

Thank you for all your replies,.....I will get in touch with the council, Idont really think there is anything to be done , I know they are very ppopular now, cant go round as Mr Cats has fell out with them over a noise issue, continuous chopping up of wood for said burner and other things.....these things are sent to try us ...ho hum.
Good luck cats.
wishing you well Cats, let us know how it goes xx
I know its still a nuisance, but it should smell better than smoking fish. Unless they are cooking fish on it of course. I wonder if it will smell better once its less new?
