something north country-ish?
They weren't known by their first names:

Arther Stanley Jefferson,
John Eric Bartholomew
James Harold Wilson

etc
Nice one, markrae.
Or, perhaps, all better known by a name which wasn't their first name i.e. Braveheart and Rufus, though I'm struggling a bit with Albert and the Lion...
I think its to do with statues
More inclined towards leads from the Stanley Holloway monologues. Albert Ramsbottom (Lancastrian) and Wallace the Lion in Blackpool (Lancashire). We can just connect Blackpool to Harold Wilson (Labour party conference).
Stan Laurel was born in Lancashire . Eric Morecambe is named after a town in Lancashire.
The Lancashire plots were about overthrowing King William II (William Rufus).

My connection is Lancaster.
