How do you put the little numbers above and below the number/letter. e.g n^3 or in a chemical equation at the bottom of the letter!?

Put the number in as normal eg "2 " and then highlight it Right mouse to font and check superscript. This will do what you want.
If you want it below then use subscript.

as a short cut:

hold down control and shift and "=" to get superscript letters - the cursor shrinks and appears at the top of the line, (press same sequence of keys to get back to normal text)

control and "=" to get subscript (same sequence to go back to normal text)
