clue 'Keep quiet' - 6 letters The letters I have are S-T-M- which I believe are correct. I know there are sometimes the occasional mistakes made by the crossword compiler and I am wondering if this might be one of them.

Right thinking there ladyalex, but think it is probably SHTUMM.

shtoom, schtoom, shtum, shtumm or stumm
adj silent, dumb, quiet.

I have tried online dictionaries and crossword solvers but to no avail and have now tried to look up your suggestion but again failed although I appreciate where you are coming from.
