if it was yesterdays crossword I think the word was pellet

I've always called it a pellet or a bolus.

I have always known them as pellets. As a kid, living on the edge of Sherwood Forest we used to get them from under the roosting perches of the owls and break them apart to see the bones etc from the mice that it had caught. Try the link below for more info.
