... and then Planning Authorities.

The Forbidden Corner is a lovely jolly place - great fun for people of all ages.

The concept that it might be mistaken for "genuine heritage" is bonkers - you'd have to be a mean-spirited tit of a person to think that ... or possibly a "Senior Historic Environment Officer" ...

Hmmm - how did that happen?

The second link works - the first is spurious gobbledegook from the AB post-garbling ghosts ...
the image of the startled face on the facade is a bit of a giveaway
A fake castle in yorkshire? Why not just throw all of their money down the mines!
Since when did castles have mouths and eyes.

What a bunch of eejits!
What absolute plonkers - this is a super place and has given a lot of families so much enjoyment - Anybody who thinks that this is a real castle needs their bumps feeling
This was on our list of 'Fun things to do if it's not piddling down' last week.......guess what? :'o(
Lawdy it's hard to believe what you read sometimes. What a load of (insert own expletive). I love the remark by a reader underneath the article in your second link Dave (the one that does open;-)
I have been to Forbidden Corner several times and taken all of my grandchildren because it is a fantastic fun place. We all loved it.
I hope they can be persuaded to change their tiny minds.
it's not, it's just the same link but you put a quote mark on the end of it; don't blame AB.

As for the castle, in the picture it looks like a joke. How does it look from other angles? Is it easily bistaken for a genuine bit of castle wall?

I've often thought Tower Bridge should be pulled down (I know, not going to happen); its fake Gothic just looks silly alongside a genuine Norman castle. It is possible for bad architecture to stuff up a genuinely historic spot ... indeed, half of today's City of London ...
Kill joys!
I haven't chained myself to anything since our library door was threatened.......anyone fancy joining me for a sit in......with chains of course...... :-)
Do they really think people are that thick as to be "confused"?
Maybe they mean foreign tourists but ive never heard of yorkshire as a tourist destination.

Maybe it is.
I've actually been here about 10 years ago. Sorry but I actually agree with the planners. Building castles with faces in a national park is gimmicky. The Yorkshire dales is famed for its natural beauty. There's no justification for more Disneyland type structures.
Unreal, numbskulls come in all shapes and sizes and departments.
Totally daft
Just to make it clear, I agree with the planning authorities reasoning that 'claiming the introduction of an “inauthentic, pastiche building” would lead to substantial harm to the heritage significance of the National Park'. Not that it could be confused for a real castle. I agree that's plain daft.
I agree with Zacs ... down with this sort of thing.

Fun things to do in Yorkshire ... whatever next?
I've been lots of times, taken children and grandchildren. It's a great day out. In it's own grounds, not publicly visible. Advertised as something that was gradually built to suit the family. No way could it be mistaken for a real castle, such as Middleham (few miles away).
In fact, anyone who takes their day out there is likely to go and get some real history at Middleham and learn a bit about the 'White Boar'.
I prefer the Blue Lion Jourdain.
Z-M :)
