Are there certain people here on AB that you take a liking to/dislike to?
Everything here is just pixels on a screen but are there certain characteristics that come through that give you a like/dislike to some users despite not knowing them in real life?

Oh yes - I have my favourites and my bêtes noires.

The interesting thing is that I've met around 25 assorted ABers at various events and social gatherings, and with perhaps one exception (who was less obnoxious in person than online), the real personas pretty much matched up to my expectations from cyberspace - and most of them were delightful people who I'd meet again at the drop of a pixel.

How'ed you manage that?
I'd love to meet certain folk on this site in real life...
We had a few outings to the B'ham Beer Festival and Christmas Markets - not been done this year (yet).
Yes. Sometimes you can read the spite/venom in their postings.
I've met quite a few too, Nailit, including SunnyD :-)
Hang on, wasn't you in charge of the bar at that do, Chris ;-)
obviously got out of hand!! Put me down for the next one. :)
Blimey - I must have dozed off before the girls got their bits out ...

I cant honestly say that there are many ABers that I wouldnt like to meet but....certain people I would avoid like the plague.
On the other hand, I would love to meet so many here. I think on the whole, that this site is full of interesting characters that I would love to have as friends in real life.
As a bit of an also ran for over 7 years there are more than a handful I've come to dislike as it happens, the majority of which are female. Mind you I've met one ABer only and they are so much nicer than they like to make out on here so maybe that applies to others too.
Not many ABer personalities are the same as the real person, I'm sure. I have a profound mistrust of some 'lifers' on here. And a profound disappointment at their lack of chutzpah.
Dave, I tried to wake you honestly.

LOL, just clicked on Buen's link.
I've never knowlingly met an ABer, but I sometimes wonder about some of those old men muttering abuse on street corners in the rain.
How very dare you, jno

If it's raining, jno, then its not me
Evening, Nailit.....when I first went to meet a group of abers I was quite worried....what if they weren't as they came across on AB....but they were lovely.....and fun.......

There are, of course, some I would choose never to meet.......and I'm sure you know who they are.....☺
Yes there are people I like here but I keep getting side tracked by all the bizarre 'right wing' stuff that goes on here and I can't just skip past it.
I say 'bizarre' because I don't think it's so much right wing but more sociopathic: a few individuals who are constantly on the attack, starting off threads having a go at people for being empathic, concerned ..."hand-wringing" if you like. People who are obsessed with punishment and hatred.
Then when they are called to question, they come up with the same old boloney about people not liking it because it opposes their opinions.

Then again, this is (hopefully) just one side to them and I imagine IRL most if not all of them a pretty decent folk I could get on perfectly well with.

There are a handful of people who always seem to get it right afaic and I'm talking logic not politics - I love hearing them posting responses that are far calmer, more astute and much better than most responses I make.

I really need to try not to get sucked in, I don't consider myself to be a regular. I've seen what happens to people when they decide to reside on an internet forum and most of it I don't like. That's why I tend to post in 'bouts' then disappear for a long time. I don't want to get to 'regular' status.

I know one poster here IRL.
I think it is totally natural that we form affinities with some more than others , that's just the way of the world.

For a very long time I ventured no further than crosswords, but gradually strode out into the wider arena of the site.

I wasn't quite prepared for some of the responses I got and still do - I have had a fair few labels (not nice ones) slung at me - but then I have broad shoulders and my life has been as a mediator and soother of troubled waters , so I shrug and carry on.

Those I have got to know better away from here are very special to me indeed.

Quite a few I'd like to meet.
