Okay let me see they were put up in a hotel that was housing asylum seekers, then the hotel's residents were given permission to play football on the rugby club's field, then finally they were signed up to play in the rugby team.

What a tale of success for two criminals, one couldn't make it up.

/// Also missing since the Games ended is Rwanda's athletics coach. ///

Perhaps St Peter's RFC should now try to trace him so as to sign him up as their coach?

maggiebee I think you seem to understand that they worked here whilst subject of a visitors visa. Good. That contravenes the terms of coming here on a visitors visa if they worked. One can assume that they, therefore are not working for nothing but also are not paying N.I. or tax on their income. It was suggested earlier that this was probably planned in...

Probably Wales are desperate for National players for the team. Are these two going to apply to become Welsh citizens and apply for a Welsh passports ?
"weren't" not "wasn't". Sorry, being pedantic today. From what I can read, these two were asylum seekers which is very different from illegal immigrants. Don't think they are/were criminals as you state, but going through the normal process. They have now been granted asylum so don't know what the fuss is about.

I stand corrected, now may I correct you, they were illegals until they were discovered, so they then applied for asylum, so technically they are criminals who have now introduced a 'get out of jail free card'.

And the fuss (as you put it) is about the easy way they have been granted asylum, when they should have been sent back to Uganda as soon as they broke cover.
aog -what is your definition of a criminal ?
what crime had they been convicted of?

I'm surprised that there are vacancies for Welsh rugby players, but so be it.

If you enter the country illegally then you have broken the law and therefore a criminal.

Unless you have right-on tendencies of course.
They came in August and are allowed to stay for 6 months as visitors. That is now up. They have now applied for asylum.

So they are not criminals. They seem to have found employment if or when their Asylum is approved.

Plenty of African footballers play in the English Premiership, so two Rugby players playing for a Welsh team is not much different.

No need for anyone to be deported - everyone's happy. Well not everyone eh, AOG.
//Plenty of African footballers play in the English Premiershi//

Did they all claim asylum? Or did they do it properly?

As a visitor, they were not allowed to do paid work. Now they have been granted Asylum they can. I expect they will be being paid something for their Rugby, and be supplimenting it with the valetting job.

As they were not professional players, the route of getting a work permit was not available to them. They have done nothing criminal.
These gentlemen have their oooooman rights. They have a right to a family life so send them home to Uganda where their family awaits them.I thought a rugby match lasted 80 minutes not 12months!!!They were taking the p. God . Some people love to have the wool pulled over their eyes on this site and get suckered in don't they? Just stay on this site and live in denial as to what is right and wrong and DON'T please apply to join the H.O. in asylum and visa control

ergo.
If you are part of the black economy and not paying N.I. or income tax then the HMRC will classify you as a "criminal" and prosecute you.

So I suppose they worked for free until they were granted asylum?

If not then I am perfectly correct in calling them criminals.
You can call them criminals as many times as you want, but you are wrong.

They were not exactly hid. The clubs website was posting about them a month ago.

// // 7th January: Update on Phillipe and Benon (our Ugandan rugby players) They are moving into the flat in Splott today. They seemed to have been supported by the local community.
They are people, not illegals
Retrocop

I repeat, while they were here on their 6 month visitor Visa they were not allowed to work. Now they are. It is clear they were working in return for lodging and keep.
