17 A. One heard between news headlines good from abroad and at home in brief? (4) ?o?g

'Bong' seems to fit - heard between news headlines and it also has 'bon', French for 'good'. I don't see the 'and at home in brief?' part, nor do I see where the 'g' comes from. I realised song (one heard) also fits, but can't fit that in with the rest of the clue. Any help appreciated.
