Can anyone explain what is meant here please?

"Suppose the numbers of spiders and flies make the total number of legs equal to 144, and suppose that if the number of flies were changed to the number of spiders, without changing the total number of legs, then the
number of spiders would have to change to the number of flies plus one."
(no legs missing; 6 per fly and 8 per spider)
Find the numbers of flies and spiders.

There are only 5 possibilities where the legs total 144, 3s+20f; 6s+16f; 9s+12f; 12s+8f; 15s+4f
