There is a flower called a nodding mandarin, see here

and the most obvious word after mandarin is oranges and goldfish are orange.
Just a thought, that's why I put the question mark.
Also, if you look up nod/nodding in a crossword dictionary, the word mandarin is also listed as a possible answer.
