Have you missed a bit out of the clue for 9a? Perhaps 'too'? Answer could be root ginger. Ringer surrounding g-too reversed.

Then root ginger seems OK. G (first letter of girl) too = also gives gtoo. Reverse (back) it and put it inside ringer = lookalike.
