Well shooting is.. in bud .. and bud is the US familiar so would say that's correct .
16d could be Behead ..but can't parse it

Somebody clever did come along "you". Incidentally I came up with behead before I saw your post so it may be a case of great minds think alike or as my teachers said to me at school fools seldom differ !

OK, I think this is how it becomes behead, but it's a bad clue!

Dee - River reversed (flowing over) and put at characters 2,4,6 (even)

BH - Bournemouth postcode

A - Area

so you get

B H A
E E D
