A patient is to recieve 1.5 litres of 5% dextrose over 8 hours. Calculate the drip rate in drops/min......via standard giving set -20 drops/ml



(i got 62.3) ???? sounds odd ?!!

Hi- I've just seen this. Assuming I understand you:

Total dose of 1.5 litres = 1500ml
1500ml = 30000 drops (based on 20 drops per ml)
8 hours = 480 mins
Drip rate = 30000/480 = 62.5 drops per minute

I can do maths but know nothing about nursing. I've assumed I don't need to make any allowance for the dextrose strength being 5%. Please check the answer seems right before dripfeeding this patient!
