Many thanks - I did wonder about that - end of one word and start of next BUT couldn't find any definition for it that made sense!
ESAS is an abbreviation/acronym (briefly) for Environmentally Sensitive Areas (Agriculture Act 1986).
I assume they only existed in Wales but I'm not sure
answer is in clue - in WalES AStonishing
