1a begins with T [that is if 1d is correct...symbolic pole - carry maiden under it [5] is totem
and penultimate letter is N

19a begins with i and ends u-h

Haven't done much yet as you see

Would help if I got 3d [military command to be ready with cases outside base [6,8] A previous correspondent says it is a mistake and should be 5,9
