22ac- Again in the afternoon (5) - Three I think - RE in THE but couldn't three be morning or afternoon?

If 1a is 'Close Behind' then 3d 'Did he light on just the place for a home (7) S???L?R - settler maybe ?

20d - an observer is a watcher.
2a - could it be AM end for afternoon. do something again could be amend.
3d - certainly looks like settler.
