Hi Nacnud, sorry I'm so late in replying... Both epicarp and exocarp would fit as they have the same definition. I chose gibus as it is a collapsible opera hat named after it's inventor Antoine Gibus.

Lately some q's can have up to four answers or different spellings which is a bit annoying. No doubt we'll get stuck again at some point! Been doing this crossword for years now and not so much as a book token so hope you have (or have had) more luck. Cheers..
