Have been told that another thread on CB would be enough to put people of joining AB. The thread contains nearly 500 replies and is ongoing. Considering that *todays* CB replies vary between 3 and 15 would a 500 reply thread put you off joining AB?

Or is it a plus that certain threads garner attention?
Given that Chatterbank is only a very small part of The Answerbank, I can't see how any particular thread in CB would be enough to put off anyone from joining the wider site.
I'm not sure if you have deliberately misunderstood my comment or not.

There is a huge difference between quantity (between a few) and quality.

I'm probably alone in feeling it's a put off, but I'm happy with that.
I have no idea what you mean. Are you saying your thread put people off joining due to it's sheer post count?

No, but the somewhat childish argument it became most likely would do.
Chris, now that I agree with but sadly just recently these types of threads are multiplying.

As I say I'm obviously an odd ball.
You are sounding somewhat petulant now Nailit.

Leave it, eh?

Agreed Mamy, but sites with 'a few' replies as opposed to sites with many replies make it for me.
Odd balls rule on AB, Mamya ;-)

Oddballs on most sites I think Chris.
Some of the most interesting discussion sites have the most weird people with the most way out ideas to make you think.
AB is becoming a site of ''agree with me or else get banned''
Please don't start again.Have you all gone mad?
You are talking about nalit's thread that started off as a sensible question but got 'Hijacked' due to it being in Chatterbank.
Chris, as a moderator do you think it would be a good idea or even possible to move such threads to a more suitable category ?
You are not an odd ball, Mamya.......a post that is interesting and could garner replies from lots of folk who have experience of the subject or are interested in finding out more could entice new members to join....

When it becomes hundreds of replies from the same few people getting at each other it does nothing to encourage long time members to take part.....so....

.....anyone looking in for the first time and hoping to add to the thread would sigh, think twice....and go elsewhere.....x
Like I said on the other thread. I probably would read a long thread if I'd not been involved in it. Maybe a few pages but that would be about it.
I don't know if it would put me off, Nailit because I am used to the site now. However, I would say that the thread was very similar to some of the Friday afternoon posts of yesteryear, which kept people amused and joining in for hours. We don't have many of them now, more's the pity.
I enjoyed the absurdity of your thread and found it entertaining and amusing.
*probably wouldn't
Eddie.....it would have gone the same way whatever category it was in......x
Question Author
of course threads become absurd, human nature been what it is, but to be told that a 400 plus thread would put people off joining AB when the average in CB is between 3-15 replies is a bit much. AB is dying (as has been speculated in several recent posts) and a post that generates over 400 replies is demonised??
Question Author
Lets all stick to ''whats for dinner tonight'' threads and see AB die a death.
I like the 'what's for dinner' threads :-)
